Stopping to find something interesting

I began my second walk focused on the task at hand ~ 60 second timer ready to countdown ~ phone camera at the ready ~ notebook at the ready in case of artistic emergency. Every time the timer buzzed was an opportunity stop where I was and find something interesting to capture.

While I strolled at my leisure, I found myself looking for an interested item to draw, and enjoyed the day coming to an end. I found a jaunty little red leaf with lovely curves to sketch when I returned home. I found that I have a habit of looking down when I walk, and so when the timer went off I was instinctually drawn to capture something on the ground and had to make a conscious effort to explore the range of view before choosing a subject. I enjoyed finding something in my small circumference to photograph, it forced me change my perspective and investigate what would have otherwise been overlooked.

  1. Veronica, congratulations on completing Week 1, your observations and sense of making the walk and the assignment something that was yours both in the walk and for after the walk really came through and I appreciate how you articulated that notion so specifically. I note your having captured many photos with a middle value, like the street and the telephone pole, and I look forward to seeing more of how you play with tonality. I also am curious about the drawings, perhaps you would consider including them at some point, time permitting.

  2. I love the collage image you out together to outline and map your walk with your 1-minute interval photos. It makes me feel like I could walk the path with you. My heart cringes a little that a piece of trash made it into your favorite images (not because of the image of course, just the trash on the road). Also, Who/what is having none of the nonsense? Is it a gnome? I adore gnomes. Regardless, I look forward to seeing more from your walks!

  3. I especially admire your photographic map at the beginning of your week 1 walk piece...Well, other than the photo of the your cat that graces the header of your blog...I love cats...One thing that I would have liked to see are enlargements of every photographic instead of just your 'favorite shots'...My favorite shot was the one in which your feet were included...I liked the shapes that you showed...

  4. Hi Veronica, thank you for this spontaneous collection from your walk! The one minute interval exercise produced such lovely images. I'm drawn to the various textures that caught your eye. I enjoy your map too - this makes me thing of how often maps are made with a "bird's eye view" and not so much with a "human level view." I think this is something to play with even more! Also I'm curious about the last photo - is it a lawn ornament ?

    Thanks again!
