Sound + Motion

I decided to try an evening walk for this creative exercise. I wanted to limit the visuals and sounds to what comes out at night, and leave the illumination of any subject I may find out of my own control.

Walking at night in the city and filming is a lot different feel than during the day. Even around 8pm, it felt intrusive documenting my walk.

I experimented with ways of showing my interesting perspectives of my walk, such as  but the videos I most enjoyed were where I focused on either sound or visual and let the other be what it may.

Light Mosaic (drawn to image)

Crunching Leaves (focused on sound)

Holding Strong + A Quiet Moment Near a Busy Street (drawn to sound)

BONUS:

BUN BUN!!!! (drawn to adorableness!!!!)

That's a HARD pass for me. (focused on gtfo)

  1. Veronica, I like your second video the most...it was a great example of creating an atmosphere more focused on sound than sight...the darkness engulfed me & since I couldn't see anything, I listened that much more intently, as if my life depended upon it...BRAVO!!!...

  2. I love the interesting shapes of the shadows and light in your first image. And the sound of the crickets coupled with the imagery make it particularly strong in my opinion. It's beautiful. The crunching leaves with the night video is very reminiscent of The Blair Witch and other spooky things. The nighttime views are eye-opening in the differences from the day. Thanks for sharing and showing that!

  3. I enjoyed these pieces, Veronica. Especially the first two - the "mosaics" from the light really struck me, I would have loved to see them up close, too. In the second video, the shadows in the night almost looked like holes in the ground or some abyss - I felt disoriented in that video but it felt intentional and very effective. I enjoyed the lightly dancing cattails, too!
